As we reach the midpoint of 2024, it is an ideal time to reflect on the milestones and events that have shaped our journey so far this year at the Good Business Charter (GBC). 2024 so far has been filled with inspiring collaborations, insightful discussions and significant progress in promoting responsible business practices.

Accreditation – A catalyst for good growth (9th July)

Earlier this month, we hosted an event aimed to encourage local councils to adopt the Good Business Charter accreditation to promote responsible business practices. The event highlighted the benefits of accreditation, such as improving worker treatment, ensuring prompt supplier payments and rewarding responsible businesses. By championing the accreditation, councils can foster greener growth, better working conditions, and attract consumers, workers and investors to their areas. The event also shared insights on how councils can use the Charter to drive economic growth and lead socially and environmentally responsible business practices. 

 Reset Connect Conference (24th – 25th June)

Whitespace Group represented GBC at the Reset Connect Conference, the UK’s leading sustainability and Net Zero event for businesses, investors, and innovators, held during London Climate Week at ExCeL. They engaged in panel discussions on Transforming Industries and Moving Towards a Future of Greener Events. By showcasing the GBC brand and using our bookmarks in their VIP lounge, Whitespace Group promoted sustainability and wider ESG within business supply chains. 

Chartered Director Conference (13th June)

The Chartered Director Conference, held at Nissan’s Sunderland plant, focused on innovation and productivity. This event offered attendees a tour of the plant and ample networking opportunities. Our CEO, Jenny Herrera, spoke at the event on the importance of responsible business practices and the critical link between innovation and productivity, highlighting how GBC accreditation supports these values. 

York Festival of Ideas: Power of Good Business (10th June)

Last month, the York Festival of Ideas featured a dynamic discussion on the power of good business with keynote speakers from Aviva, MONDRAGON Corporation and Pavers. The event coincided with York and North Yorkshire’s new phase of devolution, marked by the election of their first Mayor, aiming to boost economic collaboration and innovation. Sally Dillon from Aviva emphasised how the GBC’s principles align with Aviva’s goals, underscoring the Charter’s role in driving regional economic growth and responsible business practices. 

 Heart of the City: Lunch and Learn Session (22nd May)

Responsible business champions, Heart of the City, hosted an insightful online Lunch and Learn where our CEO, Jenny Herrera, introduced the GBC and its significance for SMEs dedicated to responsible business practices. She shared examples from accredited SMEs, highlighting the wide-ranging benefits of GBC recognition and how the framework addresses ethical sourcing, equality, diversity and inclusion. 

 Investors in the Environment Webinar (19th March)

In March, Investors in the Environment (iiE) hosted a webinar where our CEO, Jenny Herrera, discussed the importance of championing the social aspects of ESG. She outlined the benefits of GBC accreditation for organisations, focusing on responsible practices and environmental sustainability. The webinar also featured iiE members who had already embraced GBC and shared the positive impacts on their businesses. 

 West London Chambers of Commerce Workshop (22nd February)

The West London Chambers of Commerce hosted a workshop at the Festival of Business, emphasising the advantages of GBC accreditation. They used our branded materials to encourage responsible business practices across West London, showcasing how GBC can benefit organisations, employees and the public. 

 Tackling Inequality Through Responsible Business Practice (23rd January)

Our first event of the year partnered with The Equality Trust where the speakers tackled the subject of structural inequality. Our CEO, Jenny Herrera and Kate Osiadacz from TSB joined as they looked at the role of responsible business practices, especially in a world where corporate entities hold two-thirds of global economic power.
